"Learn, Experience, Grow" – An Interview with Elvira D'Alva
When did you come to Hungary, and why?
I moved to Hungary in 2022 after receiving a scholarship to study abroad. I wanted to experience something new and different from my home country—explore another culture, and grow both academically and personally. I was looking for a peaceful and quiet place to focus on my studies, and Hungary, especially Veszprém, seemed like the perfect fit. It offered an excellent opportunity to pursue my degree in International Business Economics.
Where did you first hear about VIDEOTON?
I first heard about VIDEOTON through an informational email sent to students and scholarship holders, which mentioned available internship opportunities.
What made you decide to work at VIDEOTON?
I decided to join VIDEOTON because I wanted to gain practical experience to complement my studies. The company provides a professional yet friendly environment where I can strengthen my communication and organizational skills, work on diverse projects, and learn how a large Hungarian company operates.
What do you do here? Could you tell us about your most interesting project?
My work involves communicating with suppliers, organizing data, and coordinating with different internal teams. It’s hard to choose just one favorite project, as each has its own challenges and learning opportunities. I particularly enjoy tasks where I can see the real impact of my work—like understanding how purchasing decisions influence production or logistics. What makes it especially rewarding is that I can actively share my ideas, and the team is always open to suggestions. It really makes me feel that my input is valued.
Different country, different habits. What differences have you noticed between Hungary and your home country, especially at work?
One major difference is the strong emphasis in Hungary on precision, structure, and organization. People here really value careful planning and following processes, which is a bit different from my home country, where we tend to be more flexible. At the same time, teamwork and communication are highly valued here. I truly appreciate how my Hungarian colleagues foster a friendly and cooperative atmosphere—it makes collaboration enjoyable and productive.
What are your plans for the future?
Looking ahead, I hope to continue my studies and possibly pursue a master’s degree in Management and Leadership. I really enjoy living in Hungary, so staying here for my master’s is definitely an option. The skills and experience I’m gaining through this internship are helping me better understand what direction I’d like to take in the future. I’m interested in economics and related fields, though I haven’t decided on a specific area yet. For now, I’m exploring different paths and learning as much as I can.
