„VIDEOTON offers me the opportunity to build a solid foundation of my career” – interview with Kenny Francisco (AN)
When did you come to Hungary and why?
I came to Hungary in 2021 to pursue my studies in Electrical Engineering at the University of Debrecen. One of the reasons I chose Hungary is because of the quality of the educational system, the rich history of the country, and the vibrant culture across Central Europe. I also wanted to be exposed to an international environment, and Hungary offered me this unique opportunity, which opened the door to realizing one of my dreams to become an electrical engineer.
Where did you first hear about VIDEOTON?
I heard about VIDEOTON on Tempus Public Foundation newsletter through the Stipendium scholarship program, while I was seeking an intership position.
What made you decide to work at VIDEOTON?
Videoton is a well-recognized company and one of the largest electronic manufacturers in Europe and globally. Due to their reputation, innovation, teamwork and expertise in the electronic manufacturing and automation industry - specifically in assembly and programming of industrial-purpose machines - I took the initiative to get in touch and join them.
What do you do here? Please tell us something about your most interesting project!
Here at VIDEOTON Group, I work at VT Asyst in the Engineering department as a PLC programmer. My favourite and most interesting project assignment was at a key customer’s factory in Székesfehérvár, where I was exposed to the field of robotics. For the first time, I had the opportunity to work with a Fanuc industrial robot and its controller. It was an amazing and unforgettable experience—the greatest moment during my working period there. In general, I participated in the programming and integration of FANUC robots cells and Omron PLCs. VIDEOTON offers the perfect combination of opportunities to build a solid foundation at the beginning of my career.
What experience have you gained from your time working here?
During my working time at VIDEOTON, I have gained considerable and valuable experience in the field of industrial automation. I gained a deeper understanding of the automation field by combining theoretical knowledge with practical, real-time scenarios, giving me a different perspective on the field. I have acquired knowledge in several key areas, such as Ethernet communication protocol, PLC programming using the concept of finite state machines and an introduction of OMRON PLCs (hardware and software using CX-programmer).
Different country, different customs. What differences have you found between Hungary and your country, especially in the work?
There are many differences between the countries, whether in terms of culture, tradition, way of thinking, gastronomy. Regarding work culture, there is a notable difference. Hungarian companies often emphasize a friendly and collaborative working environment, focusing on building a supportive atmosphere among colleagues. They also have a good working model that allows employees to maintain a good work-life balance.
What are your plans for the future?
As the end of my university journey approaches, my future plan is to pursue a master’s degree and possibly apply for a part-time job. I have developed a strong interest in industrial automation and robotics, and I would like to continue in this field, further developing and leveraging the skills and experiences I’ve gained through my university studies and my internship at VT Asyst.
