Péter Lakatos
Biography
Born in Budapest in 1961 to executive-turned-engineer parents, Mr. Péter Lakatos has established a distinguished career in electrical engineering and business leadership. He graduated from the Technical University of Budapest in 1983 with a degree in electrical engineering and pursued Ph.D. studies in computer sciences, focusing on “Man-Machine Interaction.”
Professional career and additional roles:
- Műszertechnika Zrt.: Mr. Lakatos began his career at Műszertechnika Zrt. in 1986, engaging in trading activities and the world-wide sourcing activity of the company. By 1990, he had advanced to Executive Vice President and served on the Board of Directors from 1991 to 2013.
- VIDEOTON HOLDING ZRt.: In 1991, Mr. Lakatos, along with two partners from Műszertechnika, led the buy-out of VIDEOTON HOLDING ZRt. He (together with Mr Ottó Sinkó) continues to serve as co-CEO and Board Member, mainly focusing on business development and optimizing manufacturing operations.
- European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT): In July 2016, Mr. Lakatos was appointed to the EIT Governing Board by the European Commission, serving a four-year term. The EIT fosters innovation and entrepreneurial talent across Europe.
Confederation of Hungarian Employers and Industrialists (MGYOSZ): Mr Lakatos has been actively involved in the operation of the Association since 2016. As co-president of the organization since 2020-, and as president from 2024 his goal is to increase the number of successful Hungarian companies on the international market.
Bravogroup: Joint owner and honorary president since 2007.
Átrium Film-Színház: Owner of a historic Bauhaus building in Budapest, housing the Átrium Film-Színház, a prominent mainstream-alternative theater venue.
- GLT (Global Leaders for Tomorrow): Mr Lakatos is a WEF alumni 1996 from the GLT (Global Leaders for Tomorrow) program
Personal Interests and privat life:
Mr. Lakatos is an avid bridge player at an international competitive level and maintains his physical fitness through tennis and golf. He has a deep appreciation for the theater.
Together with his wife, Éva Csiby, established and operate the charity website www.ad6kap6.hu, which has been online since 2008.
They are proud parents of two sons and grandparents to two grandchildren. Their first son David graduated from MIT Media Lab and is Chief Product Officer at Formlabs in Boston, while Marcell, is an entrepreneur turned medical doctor based in Budapest.
