Ali Alhaideri, from southern Iraq, is currently pursuing a PhD in chemistry at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest while also completing an internship at VT Plastic Kft. We spoke with him about his journey from Iraq to Hungary, his PhD studies in chemistry, and his work experience at Videoton.

When did you come to Hungary, and what brought you here?
I came to Hungary in 2021 to pursue a PhD in chemistry because Hungary offers excellent opportunities with fully funded scholarships for international students.

What made you decide to work at VIDEOTON?
I first heard about VIDEOTON through the company’s website. I decided to apply to VT Plastic because the open position was related to my specialization in chemistry. I am interested in gaining valuable experience and additional skills alongside my studies to become more competitive in the job market.

What is your role here? Can you tell us about your most interesting project?
Currently, I am working as a project manager assistant. In addition to the training I receive from various departments (such as IT, Quality, Production, Logistics, Sales, Finance, and HR), my responsibilities include preparing summaries, gathering information from various sources, and providing reports.

What experience have you gained during your time working here?
I have been involved in projects at various phases, which has allowed me to work through the entire project lifecycle—from initial planning and report preparation to practical material production and cross-departmental integration—gaining valuable experience at each stage.

Different country, different customs. What differences have you noticed between Hungary and your country, especially in the workplace?
Compared to Iraq, production in Hungary is at a somewhat higher level, which allows professionals like me to learn more up-to-date solutions. In my country, the production volume of goods is lower, the infrastructure of companies is a bit older than in Hungary, and the working hours are shorter.

What are your future plans?
I am planning to work with Videoton long-term and hope to settle in Hungary to start a new life.
